Hey all,
I really could do with some advice, I bought a gericom laptop just under two years ago. For the most part it was an excellent buy however I've had four problems of which three I've actually had to send the laptop back to the manufacturer!
The three main problems have been related to the backlight inverter, each time when the backlight is left on full intensity the backlight has started to flicker.. Ultimately, if left this would happen at all settings until it was fixed..
The other problem I've had with the laptop was the hard drive died, sadly I was in a rush to use the machine so I paid out of my own pocket a technician to replace the drive (costing me about £70).
Coming to today the laptop only has about 2 months of warentee left which has me worried, this laptop originally cost me £999 which is no small sum so i'd expect it to last a little longer than it has. Hell my compaq laptop from 1997 is still working without problems to this day..
Does anyone have any advice (the laptop is due for its third repair this monday)?

Ops, just want to follow up:
My friend decided to buy the same laptop a week or so later after my good experiences however the hard disk in his laptop had to be replaced too. This was done by Gericom (CCUK I beleive it the repairer).
FYI: The drive in question was a toshiba both times, avoide like the plague.. Get a nice Western Digital if you want a good drive0 -
No comments anyone?0

I have a gericom laptop, it also has been back for repair as I used ot leave the AC adaptor connected when I put it on a pile of clothes connector side down after a while it finally broke. I contacted them who passed it in to CCUK or whatever they are called and the service was fantastic it was collecected by a courier and returned in 4 days with a new motherboard. They even replaced the lid case that had developed a crack and I hadnt even asked them to.
As for would I buy another yes but I want somthing smaller and more portable and Im not sure if Gericom do smaller 12" laptops. Toshiba drives arnt too bad but Western digital are better.
Maybe you should contact Gericom and mention your uncertanty on the quality of the laptop after repeated problems maybe they could extend the warrenty on the laptop or the component that repeatedly failed on your laptop.0 -

Nah I honestly dont expect them to replace it or refund me or anything.. I mean it *has* been almost two years...
I was just thinking maybe they could extend the warentee or something JIC the same problem happens again0 -
i think gericon are the biggest pile of poo (can i say that) in the world of computers ever
just serach gericom and you'll read all my previous posts on them
if anyone is ever considering buying a gericom computer Dont!!!!!
why have aldi stopped using them?.....too many complaints!!!! there computeres are useless (the most unreliable things ever)
there very high spec for the price...but nothing ever works (my laptop has been back to them at least five times count them five times......its now out of warranty things still don't work and i have just given up....i just couldn't be bothered with them anymore)
there customer service costs over 10p per minute to call (and they never know what their talking about)
they are the worst company i have ever dealt with ever !!!!!!
stay well clear0
