    What is maximum range?

What materials will the signal be passing through?

Look for MIMO G routers for the current longest available signals.

As nick said a mimo router gives the best range, but you may not need to go to that expense, normal ones work in most houses, old houses with thick walls are a bit more problematic.

To increase range buy one of the items mentioned and then carefully place it (with an antennae booster if possible). I usually locate them in the centre of the house or in the loft (phone line extension permitting).

    It may work.

It depends on various factors such as the total distance, the materials in the wayand any interference from cordless phones etc.

You could really do with testing a wireless router first to see how strong the signal is at any given place. Netstumbler is a useful free utility that reports information about wireless signals.
