we went there a couple of years ago and loved it although things can be a bit more expensive there are the usual bars and resturants. Also found public transport easy to use, reliable and cheap

It is really gorgeous there, if you can I would definately recommend visiting Pompeii and the Island of Capri.

If money is really tight get the local bus to Amalfi. It does the same route as the trips do. Then catch a boat back to Sorrento. (bus back if you can't afford a boat)
We'd done the drive by car on a previous holiday and the view from the bus was better. We both took window seats to get the very best view. Be sure to do the bus on the way there.
Doesn't have to be Amalfi, we got off at Possitano then took boat back, there are plenty boats to choose from and you can get the times before you set out.
If you have never been to the area before a visit to Vesuvius is great.
Go to the foreigners club and have a drink on the terrace as the outlook is fab.
