Flowers in vase growing roots

I bought some really cheap supermarket flowers (£2 or something) and they have looked fresh for about 2 months!
The flowers have just started looking a bit worn out, but i noticed that the main stem has loads of white roots coming out!
I was wondering if i could plant this-would it grow? (terribly i can't remember the type of flower-and it's one of the most common types of supermarket flowers too-they're like large dasies but had green middles when i got them, if anyone could enlighten me, as its bugging me like crazy!
Also, if i can plant the stem as a cutting should i cut it down, and if so to how small?
Thanks for the help!

Sounds like they are daisys. Just pot on as they are, you have nothing to loose! Plant outside as soon as the weather is better.

    Chrysanthemums?

This happened with some my MIL had a few years back. She kept changing the water and the roots kept growing and they lasted about 3 months before the roots filled the bottom of the vase, then as the weather got warmed she potted them up and popped them in the garden. Stayed gorgeous all summer.

Then, by her typical standards, she left them out and the cold killed them!

I wouldn't bother cutting them, just plant them nice and deep and they should be fine!

Hope that helps. If I'm on the wrong flowers - sorry!

Yes they sound like chrysanthemums. I wouldn't cut them as they need leaves to produce more food.

Lucky You! I'd pant them into apot in goodc compost then pant out after danger of frost has passed.

Thanks for everyones' responses! Now i thought they were chrysanthemums but when i looked at pics online to check as i wasnt sure, the pictures looked nothing like the ones i have-however, i typed white chrysanthemums instead and some of the variations do look what i have. Im so surprised, as i've never known shop bought cut flowers to sprout! I will definately put it into a pot, as looks like it still wants to live some more lol
