Bank account applications

Just a thought that popped into my head, but do banks have a certain quota of accounts they have to accept, or does anyone get a 'bonus' for processing an acceptance?
Just wondering because when I opened my Lloyds TSB account My account details came through with my name spelled incorrectly. Now I kept the PDF of the application, so I KNOW I didn't make the error. I then process an online application for a current plus account with Natwest (who we already bank with), & my husbands details come through with his middle name as his surname!! I rang to amend the information as soon as the cards came through, to be told that I had entered it in this way - which I am almost 100% sure I didn't!!
So was just wondering if people who process the info could 'fiddle' with the name if the original name was being declined for some reason??

What "fiddle", as in, create a fraudulent application? It must be a well organised group of fraudsters if they have an operation at both Lloyds TSB and NatWest. Despite meeting their targets, they haven't covered their tracks very well, what with sending confirmation of the application to your address.
I shouldn't be so cynical but it fits the tone of this thread.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
Don't mean to be 'cynical'. I was just wondering if there are any targets to meet. It just seemed a bit odd to me that on applying for two full current accounts which I didn't think we would qualify for, we got accepted. Then on both occasions got sent through cards with incorrect details, both of which were name related & not an error on my behalf.
It IS probably just human error on the processing end, but it made me think;)0 -
no they don't have targets, and even if they do manage to create a fake account, unless they're well connected to fraudsters and are able to sell the accounts to them for criminal usage (which is going to get picked up at some point because there's going to be problems with the verification info)
What's actually more common is the creation of fake accounts when the bank is offering some financial incentive to get people to switch; someone in the bank sets up fake accounts, credits the incentive then withdraws it in cash, however, these people also inevitably get busted as well as there is always an audit trail back to them since they're opening so many accounts.0 -
Thanks - prob just unlucky to have it happen twice to me then by the looks of it. It is just a pain to wait to get accepted, wait for the stuff to arrive & then it is all in the wrong name!!!
Everything is sorted now with both accounts, with Natwest we were lucky we had another account with them, so they could see straight away that my husband was who I said he was :rotfl:0
