Dvd Player "disc Error"

We have a combined GoVideo dvd/vcr which we have had for approx 3 years. Suddenly when we try to play a dvd, (proper original discs), it tries to load it but them comes up with "disc error". Can anyone tell me whether it is worth fixing a dvd player or does the cost of this make it prohibitive? As the VCR side is still working fine, I think repairing it would be a good option if it doesn't cost too much.
Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated.

You can get a new one for approx £30 (DVD player only) Not worth repairing tbh

Try a CD/dvd cleaner first though
