What point is there in just having a price per unit? It is meaningless without the other conditions applied to the tariff.
If gas was available for 1p a kWh, would that be good value if there was a £100 a month standing charge?
With scores of tariffs, a dozen geographic areas, scores of discounts there must be over a million permutations.0 -
This question has been asked before, so there are other people who want the same thing, so you should definitely try to compile it. Don't forget to include regional variations, so people from all regions can benefit. I would suggest that you stick with Tier 2 rate, without dual fuel, direct debit and online discount, which only serve to confuse the purist.
When you are 1% through this exercise, compare your data with the comparison websites, and the ability of your table to come up with totally different outcomes will convince you that you have obviously come up with a better way.:rotfl:0 -

Who should???
Just because people have asked for it doesn't mean it is of any use to them. No one (except possibly those who later agree their request was misguided) has explained why they should want such data."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I did it about 6 months ago, out of curiosity....it takes an age to get the info, the problem comes when trying to convert the results into a format that allows you to post it on the forum.
Comparisons of tariffs by region/supplier in a table format are quite interesting, with large differences for the same tariff (price per unit and standing charge). Also some tariffs are not available in all areas. A comprehensive list would be a statisticians wet dream, but if you want to do it then the only way is to do it is yourself, as no site has all the info in a format you are looking for.
Agreed the tariff prices do not factor in discounts or cashback monies, but these are marketing ploys designed to sweeten the pill: in some cases discounts make tariffs appear less expensive than they are, thus making them feature more positivley on the comparison site lists. For instance, getting a months worth of payments rebated on the thiteenth month of your account means your stuck with paying a much higher bill than you would do for 12 months; if you want to leave the supplier earlier then you can kiss goodbye to the discount.0 -

Did the rolling around laughing emoticon not give you a clue as to my actual opinion on this? Irony is becoming a lost art.0
