Anti Virus suite destroyed my Windows 7 PC

Wasn't expecting this to hit me yesterday and I dare say probably some other readers here!
Basically any anti virus program that uses Bit Defender downloaded an automated update to its virus definitions and then promptly started quarantining all the files I was using vital to the operation of Windows 7. It wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't been in the process of updating my display drivers at that exact moment! This rendered Windows 7 useless. A lucky escape for me however because I hadn't actually activated Windows 7 yet, so 5 hours later and a fresh install, back in business.
However I did complain to the company who provides this anti virus suite via the on-line help system and they offered an extra years subscription for the trouble. Seeing as it wasn't their fault directly I'll let this one slide but I'm sure the guys and gals at Bit Defender are in lots of trouble seeing as it is their handy work.
Anyway, just a post to let you know it is worth complaining if only to take advantage of the increased subscription. Fingers crossed they learn from this mistake!

It seemed to be a short 2 hour window when this update could have been automatically downloaded. Even so you could be looking at least thousands if not in to the million of computers corrupted by this problem. At first I thought it must be the nvidia drivers I was installing until I twigged my anti virus suite seemed over active just before the PC died! Anyway, it should be safe now, as long as users missed the period when the troubled update was released yesterday!0
