in Techie Stuff
hi, just purchased this desktop below.
I'm not very techie, so was wondering if it sounds OK. (bought on a bit of a whim)
I do alot of web surfing, so wanted a quick pc, not into games, and it's mainly for personal use i.e. a few photo's, also wan't to download some music onto an ipod etc..
I have paid £271 delivered, with a new dell keyboard and mouse.
comes with no software, but i have an xp pro disk at home...It also states that it's not new but the Report Description says it's only been used for a 1 Day Demo PC Roadshow..
Dell Dimension 5150 Dual Core 2.8 2 GB RAM Ex 1 Day Demo PC !!!
Pentium D 2.8 GHZ Dual Core 2 MB cache
2 GB RAM 2048MB DDR400 Dual Channel Memory (2x1024)
80GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
16X IDE DVD ROM
16 X DVD +/- RW
Creative SoundBlaster 24 Bit
Intel Video
56 K v90 Modem
10-100 Nic
60 Days RTB warranty
Great Value Power Multi Media System
Report Description : 1 Day Demo PC Roadshow

Sounds alright to me, don't know if your Win XP will be classed as a genuine license on your new machine, have you installed it yet.0

If your XP disk is a retail one you'll be ok, though you may have to phone M$ for activation. If it's an OEM version then you may have problems with the WGA system that M$ now use.0

Got one of those but only with 1.5GB. I installed a decent grfx card and it is truly the dogs danglies
Dunno if it will have a win xp install on it already and some sort of recovery console doo-dah which will ghost the recovery disk onto your hard disk if there's a problem. Just make sure it's got some decent anti-virus and firewall software on it _before doing anything else_ and you should be laughing.
Cheers

Thanks people, sounds good.
I have only purchased it this am, so will wait with baited breath.
Delivery is UPS, so will be with me Tuesday i guess.
I will put a link up if anyone that is interested, but remember they are 2nds, refurbs, demos etc. Although i think there are new one's availabe on the site.

I also read that someone tried to recover the data from a previous model but was unsuccesfull..

I'd say you have an excellent deal there, like a previous poster said a little overloaded for your needs but who knows what you may need in the future, so definately a bargain.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

Brilliant price! but perosnally i dont trust dell. If you need any new parts you can only buy them from dell! but if all works fine then great deal!0

Why don't you trust Dell?
You don't *have* to buy replacement parts from them. You can get them cheaper from wherever you want.
If they're replaced under warranty then Dell should bear the cost anyway.0 -
Not exactly true . true if the m/bord or the psu fails then you get them from dell .But a hard drive is a hard drive whereever you go crds etc are standerd with agp and pci slots . personally if my choice was dell or say pc world , it would be dell . Thats having worked as a customer engineer for both0

For out of warranty replacements, if you want to pay a small premium for their non-standard motherboards and PSU's then by all means get them from Dell. Otherwise you could look on eBay and find the board/PSU you need.0
