EA asked what i wanted for my property and I told her- was that a mistake?

I have never sold a house before, I asked to get a valuation from a local Estate Agent- she came to the house and after taking the tour she asked what I thought the property was worth and I told her given my research in my neighbourhood, she then gave me a valuation £5000 less than i thought it was worth. I think now i should have said- 'well i dont know thats why i asked you to value the house' Should i have said nothing or does it not matter?? thanks

If you think your price is realistic stick with it0

What have you researched, for sale prices or land registry sold prices?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Definitely get at least one other EA to value it but don't give them a figure next time. The valuation you were given may well have been influenced by the figure you mentioned.0

The sign of an inexperienced Estate Agent......asking the Vendor what they think it's worth!
Never ever tell the EA what you want for the property, they are there to give their opinion on price, if that differs from the Vendors, then it is up to the EA to back up their opinion on price with comparable evidence. My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say

Some EAs are very professional many are not. I would go elsewhere.
Having done your research you will know which EA have priced similar properties to your own and can use that info next time."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
