How do i transfer money to another bank account and then close the bank account?

Write or phone the bank concerned and ask them to close the account and transfer the balance to the other account.

Sometimes you'll need to go into a branch to close an account. That happened to me when I tried to close one of my Lloyds TSB savings accounts. They transferred the interest owing to my current account.

Was a pain in the wotsit having to go in though, all the clerk wanted to do was "sell" me a credit card. :mad:

a variety of ways... online banking, telephone banking, or write yourself a cheque for the exact balance of the account and deposit it in your new account... any of these methods are discreet, you could even just go into the bank and say you want X amount transferred to your new account, then once those funds have hit your new account, tell them you want to close it.

Doing it this way tends to work in your favour since once you mention to them that you want to close the account they can start being uncooperative.
