Hi guys
I have a few used cd's i'd like to sell, but i'm not sure whether to put them on ebay or amazon? i've never sold on amazon before....
any advice on where im likely to get the most profit? the cd's are mostly rock/punk type stuff - some are going for a few quid on ebay, and some have no interest at all on there....
TIA x

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

You could always check the prices on Amazon and see if you think it's worth selling.
I sold one or two but barely made any money... the postage allowance is low for CDs and I don't think I got more than a quid each once they were both posted. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
hmm the prices arent bad on amazon (£2.99 for the cheapest)
sorry to be thick, but after fees and posting allowance, what would that leave you with?

If you sell your CD for £2.29 you'll be sent £2.00, out of this you'll pay for postage, if you use lightweight packing materials it will cost you 50 for second class post so you'll have well over £1 (maybe £1.30 or £1.40 depending on your jiffy bag price) in your hand
Don't forget it's free till you sell unlike ebay that charges as soon as you list and will keep on charging you every relist till it sells.
Have a look at out 'selling on amazon' thread if you need any more help0 -
thanks apprentice-tycoon. ive had a quick look at that thread before- may well be joining up

just one more question (sorry) - so is the postage allowance for cd's £2.00? do you get both the money paid for your cd (say £2.99) PLUS the £2....so £4.99 per cd, or do you just get the £2????
sorry if i sound thick
its just from the wording in the above post it sounds like you only get the £2. And how much is taken out as fees?

have a read of AT's post as it is explained there. You will get both the p and p element and the item cost, but after fees will only physically get £2 out of which you will have to pay the postage costs. The easy thing to do though is list on Amazon but *before* you click confirm see the figure it gives you for amount you will receive..then if that isn't enough keep adjusting your item cost until you get the bottom line figure you want.

Sorry, I didn't show you all the figures, just the bottom line - Amazon have a crazy way of working out the money they take off you.
Firstly they take a percentage off you as a selling fee, then they give you the money that the buyer has paid for the postage but then they take a slice off that too, there's also VAT on the fees too - so that's why I just gave you the bottom line of £2 (from selling a £2.29 CD) that's what's left when they have taken all of their cut from the sale, as Fay said the postage allowance that they give you for CDs isn't great.
If you decide to give it a try don't forget that before you go to the page that submits the listing you get to see how all of these figures look so you will see the figure of £xxxxx 'due to seller' so you'll mentally take off the cost of the jiffy and postage and what's left is yours and it won't get reduced in any way whereas with ebay you could have fees to pay with paypal if your buyer uses it0
