Hiya, i got this email from paypal this morning and dont know what to make of it. It reads as follows:
As part of our security measures, we regularly screen activity in the
PayPal system. During a recent screening, we noticed an issue regarding
your account.
We have reason to believe that your account was accessed by a third party.
We have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features in case your
account has been accessed by an unauthorised third party. We understand
that having limited access can be an inconvenience, but protecting your
account is our primary concern.
Reference Number: .............
We've limited access to your account temporarily .We'll review the
limitation once you respond with the information we've requested.
To respond and remove the limitation, go to the Resolution Centre. If you'd
like clarification on the limitation, please let us know by going to the
Help Centre and clicking Contact Us.
Thank you for helping to resolve this problem.
I logged into my account and they asked me to enter my card details again, (the long number)
and my account number, but when i click next, they want me to create a new password. i havent done this.
I find the email odd, has anyone else had this?

Sounds like a phising scam. Did you log-in via the link in the email?
I have had a genuine message like this but it was personally addressed to me. On that occasion it turned out someone had accessed my account and made a gift payment which came out from my debit card account.0 -
The email was address to me ( full name)
and there is no link on the email. It asks to go to paypal directly. So i typed in paypal.co.uk in my browser, and the security issue came up. dont know what to make of it though.Serial lurker..0 -
In that case then it looks like someone has tried to access your account. Have you checked the transaction details to make sure no payments have been taken. Also check your linked bank accounts as they can tell you about any failed transactions that have been attempted0

Just checked my linked bank accounts online and everything seems to be in order, no unaurthorised transactions. I cant check paypal account as it goes straight to changing my password and doesnt let me go to anything elseSerial lurker..0

I have had this before and like you, was suspicious. I phoned paypal before I did anything and was advised to change my password and the password to my Ebay account too. Someone had taken an unauthorised payment via paypal but it had been spotted (hence the email from paypal) and paypal had refunded.
If the email was addressed to you and contained no link it is probably genuine. Give them a ring, they were great when I had my problem.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65
