Best way to install a phone line / cable internet physically with VirginMedia

Hi there
Apologies about the very odd question but here's my dilemma.
I've just bought a house converted from an old warehouse.
The town is entirely firbre optic capable are; the house next door [across a small alley] is online BUT our house
- Has no physical phone line input
- Is not recognised by the virgin website or on the phone as the house next door is a different postcode. As the house is new it has a new postcode.
Now I spoke to a representative and asked them to connect the phone-line but ended the conversation with the feeling that they didn't really understand my predicament.
What I need is for them to connect cable ideally. How do I go about getting it installed? I've gone from frustration to just embracing the absurd now
What is equally amusing is I can see the old telephone exchange from our top window :silenced:
Cheers all

It depends on a few things.
1-How far from your property does the existing VM ducting terminate
2-Any wayleave issues to get the service routed to your property
3-Cost of installing new ducting of existing dig
4-Capacity in Mux & Street Cabinet
5-Local authority rules on excavation of streetworks to install new ducting.
You need to call VM & get a Install Manager out to do a site survey on your property to answer the questions above. Also VM will not in most cases pay for streetworks, that will be down to you or the developer
As for seeing the exchange from your top window,if you mean a large building,then you're looking at the wrong thing,VM's exchanges are street cabinets;

Aye there's a street cabinet just opposite

I asked on the other side of us and the house joined to us [yet another postcode] has virgin as well so I'm pretty sure they can sort it. Phew!
I had problems actually getting them to understand so I used the neighbours postcode and gave them our house name rather than number and they said it wouldn't be a problem.
They are painfully rigid with that postcode checker of theirs.
The best way to do this is bending their own rules. Instead of waiting for them to get back to me I simply pretended to be a new customer and they were more than happy to help. The best thing is you can book them in for a home visit including the holy grail of modern telecommunications that is A TIME SLOT :j

I hope I'm wrong but the catchphrase of Private Frazer from Dad's Army keeps springing to mind.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I'd prefer 'Don't Panic' to 'We're doomed'

I'm just after their broadband service really as I'm on a contract phone....Are you a Thrifty Beatnik?0 -
When you say the town is fibre optic only, do you mean Virgin Media or BT ?
If when the cable contractors that put the cable tv/phone ducts into the existing propertys, missed out your property because it didnt exist as a residential dwelling then you may be out of luck, because I dont think the cable industry retrospectivly go back and pick up propertys they originally missed, they would probably infer that you need to use BT, if the 'fibre optic only' is one of BT (few and far between) fibre only areas, then you would have a chance of getting service installed but not at any price, if the install cost was excessive, you would be expected to pay more that the usual £120, if your install involved laying new ducts etc, but if its VM cable or nothing then its probably going to be nothing0 -

It's only Fibre Optic up to the Mux,then copper from there to the street cabinets. If the is a shared swept tee between the 2 property's & it goes to the correct cabinet, the should be spare capacity in there on the TV/BBand tap & ports as well as the phone 'D' sides.0
