Unable to remove a desktop icon

HI guys and gals

as in the title i am unable to remove a desktop icon, I was downloading windows media player 11, was having connection problem so stopped the download now realised it was being saved to the desktop,
have tried to delete the program but it says


have tried to delete in safe mode and also in my administrator safe mode all with the same error message

any ideas appreciated

you tried using system restore to roll back to a point before you installed it ??

I use this if a file or icon will not remove it's self.

I hadn't but I've managed to sort it out
rebooted in safe mode with command prompt and deleted through DOS
