I was pick pocketed today =(

This morning i was pick pocketed on the bus today, they took my purse which has all my bank cards, a credit card, driving license and NI card. =( i feel so angry and stupid at myself for letting it happen and also for carrying everything around with me.

I spent all morning going around what banks were open to cancel my cards, have also rung up credit card companies. And also spent about an hour and half in the police station to file a report.

Is there anything else i can do? Ive been saving hard for a deposit for a house and now im scared what might happen. Ive read a couple of stories on here how people have had their purse/wallet stolen and then the theieves manage to get their money through chip and pin but i have never written my pin down or even carried it around with me and i dont want the banks to try and use this as a excuse to not pay me back if its fraud. how else can i stop them?

Feel really stupid and upset. Trying to not let them get me completely and just say i lost whatever i had in my purse but i cant stop being angry at myself.

As your Driving license has gone you need to do this asap - get http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=808-85

BTW in future don't take your driving license, passport or NI card out with you if you don't need it. And if you look young then it's better to pay for a Prove it card (or whatever) than have a proper identity document stolen.

Thanks i will read up on that right now.

This might sound stupid but i need to know for sure, when a card is stopped does it mean its totally useless everywhere or is it only stopped here and people can still use it aboard?

Since November, the banks now have to prove it is more likely than not that it is your fault so that is unlikely to be an issue and they are now stopped anyway.

The maximum liability is £50 each but even if they were used it is unlikely they would charge it and certainly not after you had stopped the cards.

It should be stopped everywhere. Regardless as soon as you phone them you are only libel for the first £50. Hopefully you phoned them on a phone with an itemised bill so if there is any difficulty you can prove when you contacted them.

To get a new NI card read this - http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/outofworkhelplookingforwork/Frequently_Asked_Questions_about_National_Insurance_Numbers/index.html

Yes i called from my mobile which has online itemised billing.

I feel like i have done all i could but still feel so vulnerable of what they could get away with. Do i need to keep popping to the banks to check on whats happening with my accounts? Just to be safe that nothing like fraud has taken place?
