HSBC Premier Invitation - junk or

Hi, over the last few years ive been trying to rebuild my credit rating. I used to be with Lloyds and they wouldnt even give me a debit card. Im now with Natwest with maestro card, two credit cards with them including a gold one, and a gold barclaycard.
Just got home from work today and i have a personalised invitation from HSBC premier, however i dont have anywhere near what they want in savings, and i dont earn 100k a year (i wish!!!)
Would anyone know if this is just usual junk mail, or it is sent to people that hsbc deem to be suitable based on credit score/data supplied say exquifax or experian etc? ( bit like a pre-approved sort of basis)
Just wondered as may mean my score improving lot quicker than i thought :-)
Thanks in advance
Chris

PS just to add, was by post not email!
