Hi, I've got a worry that I'm really hoping someone can help with. I'm not sure if this is the right section, so sorry if it's in the wrong place.
Basically, I'm a student, so I live with my parents during holidays and in a student house during term time. I've always considered my student house to be a "temporary address", and I still have my bank account and mobile phone registered to my "permanent address". So when I renewed my passport recently, I only listed my home address. However, I'm starting to really worry, because I do have somethings registered at my term time address - my name is on some of the bills, and my name is on a house bank account. So in the future, do I need to list my term time address on things? And if so, will it be problematic that I have two addresses listed for the same time period? And did I make a mistake when applying for my passport, and is it something I could get in trouble for?
I really hope someone can help me. I'm really really worried about this and I'm really scared I've done something badly wrong.

I'm sure you've nothing to worry about, but if i am wrong, look on the positive side, you won't need a passport in prison.0

Both of the addresses you gave are valid addresses which you have access to.
When registering your passport, the purpose of the address is to give them a place to send the passport back to and even if if it is for verification purposes (which I doubt), clearly giving your home address is the smarter option, your parents live there, they know you.
What it boils down to however is deception or usage of a fictitious address (or one you don't actually live at or have the ability to live at) - in your particular case, you haven't decieved or given a false address, so even if they did investigate the address, which they won't, clearly your parents aren't going to say they've never heard of you.0 -

Thanks, that's reassured me a bit. Thinking about financial stuff, if I apply for anything where I need a credit check, do I need to put both addresses down?0 -
No! Keep your parent's address as your main address, that is your permanent address, you are just staying in the house at uni. If you start to give two addresses it will get more complicated. For example, if you move to a different student address at the end of the year you will have to change that address on everything you have used it for. Also, over the time you are at uni you could have 3 or 4 different addresses which would make applying for things after uni very complicated with dates and things. For my job I have needed many Criminal Records Bureau (sp?) checks to work with children and at uni I was always told to keep one main address to avoid confusing matters."It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It's called living." Terry PratchettBought our house 2012

the address you give for financial products etc should be the same address that you're on the electoral roll with (which should be your parents unless you registered to vote at your student house)
Generally speaking however, if you're applying for anything student related then they will most likely ask for both addresses, however, in any other case, stick to using your parents address only.
And really, don't worry... so long as you're not giving a fake address to someone you don't have a problem, do you think they send people out to your address armed with scanning equipment and binoculars to make sure you actually live there?0 -
Sorry guys, I'm just one of those people who gets really worried about these sorts of things. Does the fact that I have a bank account registered with my student address not matter then?0

You can register to vote in relation to both addresses. What you can't do is vote in a general election in both places.
On 6 May (or whatever date the general election turns out to be on) you may not be at your "permanent" (parents' address) and may not have arranged a postal vote - but if you register to vote in both places you have a choice (in addition to the postal vote option).0 -

unless you have a student bank a/c that specifically asks for both your proper (i.e. parents address) and you term time address, then you are most unwise to use your term address for any financail products0
