HB when children go to Uni

Suzy - there was another post within the last month about this and whether the students should be removed from the accomodation requirements...ie should your benefits reduce the number of rooms that you qualify for...if I remember correctly there was some case quoted and the OP in that situation kept the number of bedroom requirements for the child that was away at Uni for their LHA claim....I am searching to see if I can find it so don't panic just yet :-)
found it...the last post will probably be of interest

That's interesting! It actually makes sense, if you think about it, as uni is known as a term time address on most paperwork...
Let us know how you get on if you go down that route, OP, as others are likely to be in the same boat over the next few months.0 -
If you are in receipt of LHA benefits and possibly other benefits, are your kids going to qualify at uni for grants available to low income families?
I know from looking at student finance pages for Warwick this week, if I was a low income parent, my son would actually receive about an extra £3000 per year in grants/bursaries - some from maintenance grant, and some from university itself - MORE than students who are not from a low income family. My oldest son went through uni with just his student loans and worked 8 hours per week - so your daughters might be doing rather well at university in terms of having some extra cash to their fellow students - maybe a little extra to help out in the summer time - especially if they have a part time job as well.
In terms of how much they are at home - some of the residences vary between 31 and 40 weeks that they are on campus - so they could be home with you as much as 20 weeks throughout the year. Hopefully you can keep your LHA0 -
Thanks so much all of your for your thoughts and input. I will enquire further from the Council...fingers crossed I can keep the LHA.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
really....it's not hard to understand :T0
