Can this window damage be fixed?

OH was cleaning out the guttering today. The ladder was a huge 3 section job, very heavy to move. At one point when he was moving it over, it slipped and scratched a window. The scratch is horizontal and around 6 inches long so very noticeable, the 'wood' foil has also come off the pvc frame.
Anything we can do, other than replace it?

Rule of thumb with Glass is that if you drag your nails across the scratch and your nails can 'feel' the scratch, then it has to be replaced. If your nails can't 'feel' it, it can be polished out.
You may find that this is covered under your house insurance. Especially if you have Accidental Damage.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Yes, nail definitely catches on the scratch. Never thought about house insurance, will have to go check what is covered.Herman - MP for all!

A bit late now but next time you're using the ladder you should put an old pair of socks padded out with rags over the end of the ladder.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

You could always contact the window company. I'm sure they will have ways to repair this kind of damage to the frame. You will almost certainly have to replace the glass though.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0
