Short Break in Prague

I am looking into taking a 3 night break in Prague in Feb/March next year and have found that we will be do this for about £150-200 via BMI baby and https://www.wintersunshineholdiays.com and that would be staying in a 3/4 star hotel. Can anyone recommend any hotels that might be suitable - as it is a break with my wife we will be more interested in the local culture as opposed to the stag/hen venues which I know Prague attracts. Also could someone suggest how much I would need to budget for to cover expenses like taxis to/from airport, evening meals and getting around the city? Many thanks.

My best advice for going around the city is the Metro/Tram. The tickets are about 25p for a single - (for 5 subway stops/20 mins on Trams and Buses).
For 50p you can have 75 mins of travel (90 mins at the weekend).
A 24 hour ticket will cost you just under £2. You can purchase these tickets from the kiosks or machines, and you will need to validate them (stamp them). There is a fine if you do not do this.

The hotel i stay at in Prague is the Corinthia Towers (its pretty much got its own metro stop, and its only two stops away from the city centre). You can usually get some good packages there which include a Cooked English buffet breakfast, transfers and usually a free 3 course meal. To do this you will have to then book your flights seperately.

I would advice you to go to their website https://www.corinthia.cz this autumn (when next years deals will be up - i think last year we paid £200 for us both which was in a 5* hotel, 3 nights, full cooked buffet breakfast, a free 3 course meal and transfers. So about £170 each inc flights).

If you do get a taxi from the airport... make sure you ask them how much it would be before you get in - you looking at paying anything between £15 - £30 depending on exchange rates and taxi driver.

A top tip for you would be this. Wake up one morning very early, have breakfast then get a taxi to the top of the hill (prague castle) then walk around in the snow - you'll pretty much be the only people there - if you walk to the bit where you would go up if you were to have walked up from Charles Bridge - you can look and see a great view. It's so magical being up there at that time of the morning, as though its just you. At 9.30 the tourists and snow ploughs come along... so make sure you get there very early - and go to the cathedral as soon as it opens.

Have a great trip - any more questions ask.

I agree, the castle is a must but one quick bit of advice. The castle is divided into about 5 areas. Each one needs a ticket or you can buy tickets for a combination of areas. If you are there for the afternoon 3 areas is about right without having to dash (I recommend the Church and crypts and the Royal Palace).
Also I would try the museum at the top of Wencleslas square (Which is a rectangle). It's right out of the Beano with just about every animal you could think of on display. Then head down the hill a couple of hundred yards for a pint in Jagger's Sports bar. It looks a bit pokey from the street entrance but most of it is underground and it is HUGE.

Not sure if this is true hopefully someone here will be able to let me know. I have been told that the Star ratings on hotels over there are at the owners discretion rather then being externally verified anyone else heard that or was I being wound up?
