Amount of food to feed our cat

When the cat moans for extra food - play with it or cuddle it as a distraction0

No two cats will eat the same just as no two humans do. It all depends on metabolism, activity & general fitness. You need to feed an amount that keeps your cat at a healthy weight. Even different times of year can affect how much they need. This time of year for example, they will demand more food as they're off out hunting for mates etc.
Use your judgement as to how your cat looks. Is he/she underweight/overweight? If so, adjust the food otherwise carry on what you're doing. It's common sense really
The same principal works for dogs, and indeed most animals in our care. The recommended amounts written on packaging are just an average guideline, not an exact amount.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
My 2 cats are between 4-5kgs and they get 1.5 sachets a day each, and access to dry food all day. I feel this is plenty especially as my female cat will very rarely finish it all. My male cat would eat all day if i let him, and he is always around my feet when I am cooking waiting for more, which I don't give him (am I mean?!) They have access to the outside through a cat flap, though they are both quite lazy and prefer to spend the day sleeping on the bed (and the night too!!)....though in saying that they are both outside now but only because the sun is shining :rotfl:0

The trick to weighing without buying scales especially, is get on the scales yourself, then get on the scales holding the cat, subtract one from the other and bobs your uncle,
Yeah this is what I did lol, I bought some bathroom scales. Unfortunately though it now means I have to look at how much I weigh too
Hmm, ok maybe I should just keep him on what he is - when we pay him attention and give him cuddles he soon settles down. Maybe I am being too soft

If you've got the latest Wii Fit it has a function to enable you to weigh pets (and suitcases) and it's quite accurate too!

I feed my cat about 1 pouch a day usually in the afternoon and put out about 50g of biscuits (have one of those little tubs with weights along the side) in the morning for him to graze on but if he gets hungry I pop some more down. He is a very active outdoor cat so if he is hungry it's usually because he's been out and about lol so I just tend to give him food if he wants it. He grazes constantly, very rarely has a whole pouch or a large amount of biscuits - just going to go weigh him now lol0

Have just switched our Isabella onto Bozita wet food which is an amazing food IMHO with extremely high meat content and costs quite a bit less than Whiskas. We also give her Purely PAH biscuits to munch on. I would highly recommend Bozita. Its cheaper and you don't need to feed as much due to the higher meat content
