Because originally it did but now the fleas have become so resistant to it that it's only effective for around 5-6 weeks, thus the recommendation is to treat every month.

To the OP: I think you'd be better off changing products and use Stronghold or Advocate. Also make sure you spray your house thoroughly with either Acclaim or Indorel which will give 12mths protection. Now is the best time of year to do it as the larvae are all starting to hatch which is why you're noticing and increase of fleas around. As hotcookie has already mentioned, get some Drontal and worm your cat at the same time.

I was advised not to use Drontal at the same time as Stronghold. Might be worth checking with the Vet about that.

I never did find Frontline to be anything like as good as it was hyped up to be, but the Stronghold is very good (until they get resistant to that I suppose:mad:)

Just checked for myself and Stronghold is supposed to kill the most common worm infestation associated with fleas (and ear mites) and thus treating with Drontal at the same time would be overkill unless some other kind of internal parasite was suspected.

I stopped Frontline a couple of years ago as it was like pouring money down the drain , Why Vets keep trying to sell it I do not know . I am a Groomer and the amount of pets that come in with fleas that are on Frontline is unbelievable . I put everyone on to StrongHold and its worked every time .

You need to treat your house. Get some Acclaim (about £20 - WELL worth it, I promise you) and follow the instructions. We tend to do this once a year when the weather warms up and the dormant ones wake up, and it does the trick.

Yes, you are quite right about the Stronghold, no need to use Drontal with it. Thank you for picking up on that :T

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I posted. I'll blame lack of coffee at that time of the morning :D

Another vote for Stronghold... although to be fair, one of our two cats is allergic to Frontline. Shame it's so expensive, and can't be bought online without a prescription (which I have to pay through the nose for )

Touch wood.... haven't seen a flea in quite a while.

I have 4 cats and they are all on Program injections.

We discovered the injections after a rather nasty flea infestation - 2 houses, 2 cars, 4 cats, not good!!!

They get one every 6 months and I think the injection is about £20 - they get them done at the same time as a checkup and innoculations etc.

The science bit is that the injection prevents the flea eggs from hatching out - kills the lifecycle stone dead.

If you have fleas in the house then get the spray from the vets - silver can with purple on it, can't remember the name, sorry!

We have not had sight nor sound of a flea in 6 years now - worth every penny!
