Ezydog lead for Jack Russell??

We have a lively Jack Russell who is a nightmare to walk - have posted on here before about him.
Have a harness for him to try and stop him pulling while walking but doesnt make any difference.... wondered if anyone has tried the ezylead which is stretchy - wondered if it would be easier on the walker's arm!!

I have tried the usual methods of stopping and making him walk beside me etc but he just forgets - he is grand when i am on my own but when the kids are with us he just wants to keep up and run after them.

Thanks for advice if you have tried this lead.

My Terrier cross is currently a week into using a Halti headcollar. She has stopped pulling as much as she did, still doesn't walk to heel but my shoulders don't ache anymore!
  • Hi Everyone,

I think I'll keep an eye on this thread, having a 6mth old lively JR myself. He currently has a halti, which does not help with his walks. He pulls and practically strangles himself in order to get to new and interesting things. I've tried the stop and start trick for over a month now with no luck, I've also rewarded for good "heel" walking. Still no help. My vet suggested a chest harness, so was going to buy one tomorrow and give it a go.

  • in my experience, chest harnesses just give them more to lean into - so they can pull harder - like a sled dog!

I would be interested to hear how people have got on with the ezy lead, my mums lurcher walks fine till she sees a cat, then she does 0-40mph in about four foot, and nearly takes your arm out of the socket!
  • Can anyone describe an ezy lead please?I've googled images and they just look like a normal lead to me.

I had an ezylead which lasted all of a week. I couldn't get used to the handle at the top, and it did nothing to stop the pulling.

We had the same problem with our JR. We've always used a harness as she coughs with just the slightest pressure from a collar. However we swapped from a normal harness, to a Mekuti, which is brilliant. It takes a bit of getting used to, as you attach the lead at two points, but twinned with clicker/reward training it was almost instant. It was almost like Tilly realised that she wouldn't actually fall over if she did walk slightly slower! There's lots of information on the website about how it works.

We still use the same harness, but only use two attachment points if, say, we were walking down a busy street, just for an extra bit of help.

There's lots of sizes and Rachel is excellent if you need any assistance in fitting or using it.

PS. I don't have anything to do with the company, just a satisfied customer!

Sally lizzie - Its good to hear that I am not the only one with a lively Jack Russell!!
I saw ezylead in pets at home - basically same as ordinary lead only stretchy - i thought would take some of strain off ...but seems maybe not from the comments here.
Might have a look at the mekuti one later - heading out now.......

Thanks for all the advice on here.........l
