Alliance and Leicester - closure of account!

Hia All,

I have been battleing with the Alliance and Leicester about bank charges that i incurred last year due to sistuation out of my hands :(

Since then i've been hit with over £500 of charges, despite trying to contact them to get some help at every opportunity.

Then went to the FO, who are still dealing with the complaint.

I informed A&L i wouldnt be using the account in october but wasn't allowed to close the account because of the overdraft owing.

Since then, despite not using teh account i've been hit with another £150+ of charges, yet they wouldn't speak to be as teh complaint was with FO! Got a Default Notice the other day demanding payment - was pretty shell-shocked - and have finally got the account closed via A&L collections dept. to prevent any further charges, yet, get this, i'm still to get charges for them to close the account! I don't understand!

Have explained im not in a position to pay off the huge overdraft and am basically stuck - have moved job base so have to pay out extra for petrol and parking now - no money left after this - yet they still add charges!

Has anyone else experienced such incompetance from the banks or am i expecting a little too much from customer services?

If the bank have done nothing to help in spite of your repeated attempts to seek help and therefore took your money elsewhere then the FOS should relook at this as a failure to treat your fairly and sympathetically.
Did they ask for an income and expenditure form at the time of the original complaint?
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
