in Credit cards
Over 50 so Saga credit card could do for us when visiting USA this autumn - purchases, hire car and cash. Acknowledge Nationwide debit approach probably better, but hassle of setting up appropriate current account a no go at this time. Also, would topping up the Saga credit card with cash before leaving make sense ?

There is a new card available from Audi
http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/financial_services/new_audi_card_hide/0.html
which does not charge the typical 2.75% loading for using abroad
You wont be able to avoid some charges for cash advances with either audi or saga.
If you open the account in the Nationwide branch its straightforward enough.
I think that if you load a credit card you are not covered for fraudulent transactions which use the "in credit" element.
Enjoy your trip:j0
