Hi there,
I am looking for some advice on raising a deposit for a flat.
It may seem an easy task for some on this board but I have very little money.
I lost my job last summer and have been unable to find work since.. any savings I had have now been used for every day living and bills and I am running into debt.. I'm trying to work on that with teh advice on this board.. but thats another matter.
I wondering if anyone here knows of a charity or company who offer loans or grants for securing a deposit & first months rent to movie into a private rented flat.
Currently me my partner & son are living with my mother.. but we need to move ASAP.. my brother has been staying here and can be quite abusive and loud when he's had a drink (which is quite often).
As I mentioned I have no way of finding around £3,000 up front for a deposit and have no family members or friends willing to lend it to me.
The local council seem very un willing to help and we are only a band C on the housing list.
I'm at a loss to find a way to improve our situation and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Where do you live? Are you sure you need such a huge sum for a deposit and the first months rent? I'm in the South-West and here a 2 bed flat rents for roughly £600 pcm so you would need £1,400 max for deposit & rent (most places seem to need £200 more than the rent for the deposit.).
Have you spoken to your council about deposit schemes? If you are both jobless and have a dependent you should get housing allowance.

Find a cheaper home!
You do not need to spend £3,000 on a deposit for a 2 bed flat, no matter where you are in the country.
Deposits are usually 1.5 the monthly rate, so here in the South East you'd need more like £900 - £1,500.0 -
Relocate: there appear to be no jobs in your area AND housing is stupidly expensive so up sticks and head north! Otherwise do you actually have two bedrooms and a private living area where you are? If not then even a one bedroom flat will be a step up. Get your CVs and covering letters out there, hand deliver them to every pub or shop in the area don't wait for jobs to be advertised or you will be up against the masses.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Ask Shelter for advice on your situation - perhaps they have a local drop in office.
My understanding is that many councils operate a rent deposit guarantee scheme for tenants in housing need and low income, though their criteria may be different in different areas. Does your council operate this scheme and if so, what is their application criteria? Some have schemes to introduce tenants to LHA friendly landlords.0
