I remortgaged with Nationwide last year and incurred no fees during the transfer. I understand that if your mortgage is for longer than 10 years then there are no redemption charges.

I went through moneysupermarket.com and checked each providers details for charges, etc. Nationwide were not the cheapest with regards interest rate but with no upfront costs and flexibility within the package for lump sums and regular overpayments - also access online available - it was just what I wanted.

Last year I remortgaged with Halifax to a discounted tracker for 2yrs. The product was fee free with no redemption or penalties of any kind. I was looking for a mortgage that didn't cost me or tie me in as I knew I would probably be moving during the following 2yrs. As I was an existing customer I didn't have to pay any legals.

I did shop around beforehand, but most other products with a lower interest rate had an application fee/penalty charges & when I did the sums for my relatively small mortgage, the Halifax deal worked out most cost effective.
