npower wrong meter for offer
Options
I signed up to npower in January 2010 at an exhibition in Glasgow which offered £100 off at the start and £100 off my DD anually thereafter. I gave my electric meter reading last week and my gas reading at the end of the week. I have now received a letter saying that I have the 'wrong type' of meter (electric) to receive the offer and have said that they will put me on to another tarrif. Can i now phone and cancel since they cannot honour the offer?
Offer was for 'Energy Bonus Advance' and the unit rate was up to and including 728kWh per year 14.23p 14.94p inc vat. over 728 kWh 13.10/13.76p inc vat. But the most recent letter quotes the same rates but no mention of the £100 discount. I am wondering if they really know what they are doing and is it worth calling Customer Services?

Hi fifipat - When you switch, as you did at the exibition, either the copies you were given of the documents you signed, or a confirmation of the switch sent thro' the post, will state a period within which you can change your mind, which can be as short as 7 days, and the timeline runs from the date you signed-up to switch, which in your case was over 2 months ago
However, as n'power have written saying that they cannot now supply the service that you contracted to buy, the contract is void and n'power cannot place you on a different tariff without your permision, but, if you do nothing before the day the supplies are taken over by n'power, from that day you will be on a 'deemed' contact with n'power at whatever prices n'power are now offering - By the way, have they sent you a copy of this new tariff?
Don't phone them or Email them, WRITE today heading the letter Complaint, pointing out that you agreed to Switch on the basis of a particular tariff being offered to you, and as they now cannot or will not, supply you on the terms of that particular tariff, you regard the contract as void and they are not to proceed with the switch process.
n'power's reputation on this site isn't exactly covered in glory, and the timeline of a successful sales pitch in January, a meter readings request in March that is quickly followed by a letter withdrawing the special offer, has an unpleasant aroma about it - I really must empty that kitchen bin that I put some old fish heads in 3 days ago
Debacle - Any comments?
If in fact your protest is too late and n'power do take over your supplies, the only alternative open to you, is to Switch to someone else immediately0 -
I'm in a similar situation to fifipat with Scottish Power who I switched to recently. I'm switching to someone else as soon as I can.
If they try and bill me a cancellation fee I'll be saying exactly what dogshome is saying - I switched on the basis I'd be put on a particular tariff and only after the switch date and I phoned up to see what was happening did they say they weren't putting me on that tariff after all.0
