Hi can anyone recommend a good dry dog food for a springer spaniel? we currently feed him bakers but have been reading on here and lots of people are saying to stay well away from it
He gets lots of exercise at least 2 good walks a day and walks miles at the weekend.
many thanks

I don't give my dogs any dried food at all, it scares me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I feed my springer Autarky
http://www.itsaspringthing.co.uk is a good forum with plenty info about springers0 -
I think CSJ is good stuff and has some very good value ranges, from budget through to 'super premium' - if you email them and tell them what sort of requirements your dog has they will send you free samples to try:

Another vote for CSJ - my two springers have been on it for a year now and I continue to be pleased with it - as do they!! Mine aren't working dogs and do very well indeed on the Natural Champ Adult - a 15kg bag (at just under a tenner) does them both for just over a month.
We also use some of their herbal range with excellent results - herbal additions to sprinkle on the food - most notably "Hold It" for our Rooby Doo who has a little feminine leakage problem (well, she did before she started having a daily sprinkling of Hold It).
And another vote for www.itsaspringthing.co.uk too - lovely friendly forum packed full of useful (and often amusing) stuff about springers (and other spaniels .. and a few non springers too!).0 -

Eh?
My dog has recently gone onto James Wellbeloved Ocean Fish on advice of the vet. Brilliant food, the difference in my dog is amazing. She no longer smells bad, her ears are cleaner, her coat is becoming silky and soft and her behaviour has improved.0 -
I always use hypoallergenic food for our springer. Another vote for James Wellbeloved from me, although sometimes we have to use Burns; either way, it made a difference to our Springer.
There is some good information here http://www.love-springer-spaniels.com/springer-spaniel-diet.html
It also has a guide to deciphering labels, which i found useful.0 -
Is CSJ just for "working" dogs though? Id like to have a go at the digestion mix but as my two, particularly the disabled boy, dont actually steam about all day, Im concerned it may not suit them. (They are on a mix of orijen and royal canin at mo)0

No, they do some very high energy foods for sled dogs, etc but also some foods aimed at 'resting' dogs (i.e. retired working dogs or pets!), and some light/lower calorie foods as well for dogs that need to lose weight, or tend to be well covered!
here you go -
Budget range:

middle range (Badger is on the senior lamb/rice at the moment)

super premium:

I would happily feed the 'old champ' but my local supplier didnt have it in when I bought the lamb and rice.0 -
wow that stuff looks great and alot cheaper than i was expecting aswell our ESS is a show dog not working so wouldnt need a high energy diet, thanks for the advice0
