Virgin Card charged twice

I purchased some items about a month ago on a plane - £34.50 and £16.00, with my Virgin Money CC. These showed on my account on 03/03, and then again 17/03. I rang Virgin today and they said that it is not their problem I need to conatct retailer for refund. Surely Virign should reverse the 2nd transaction as I haven't authorised it, rather than me try to find details of Thomas Cook accounts office? Or are Virgin correct and its up to me to chase?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Practically and out of courtesy I would phone Thomas Cook and ask them to correct it.

But if there is any problem or they are difficult to get hold of, then go back to Virgin and dispute the transaction. Virgin can't push you back to the retailer if you haven't authorised the transaction. They will charge it back to Thomas Cook.

Trouble is I can't find any number for their accounts office - the travel agent haven't got a clue for a number and the after sales doesn't deal with independent transactions, only complaints about the actual holiday.

OK I think you're left with the Virgin route - start the dispute procedure. Say you did what you could to contact the retailer but it wasn't possible in the circumstances..
  • i had this once and the bank told me that it was hanging on and eventually the funds would be realeased as no authorisation for it. it did take some time to come back on the statement but if it was not authorised it should drop back in

In Gizmo's case these were actual transactions posted to the account, not just pending authorisations.

Firmly Virgin's responsibility to chargeback the ghost transactions ;)
