For travel Ins puposes, is Jersey UK or Europe?

Taking Mother to Jersey to celebrate her 80th Birthday in June. Have booked flights, & a lovely (v expensive) hotel.

Trying to sort out insurance. I can't decide if I need cover for UK or Europe ....

Does anyone know?
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

I think most will consider the channel islands as Europe. They are not part of the UK.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

    No.

For travel insurance purposes, the Channel Islands are included in the UK by insurers.

I just checked the Insure&go as that appears a popular company to use. The have the channel islands listed as Europe. Direct Line also list as Europe. But Post office Travel Insurane includes as UK.

Advice is to check with Insurers.

    No.

In your post you have used 2 companies (DL & Insure&go) who do NOT offer UK travel insurance. (Presumably to win an argument with me, rather than help the OP!).

My advice is correct - the OP should use a company that offers UK travel insurance, where he will find this covers the channel islands (eg. direct-travel)

Suggest you check the DL and Insure&go sites. They do offer UK only Travel Insurance and neither include the channel islands as within the UK.

I do know what you are saying however. There are UK only travel policies that do include the channel islands within the UK geographical limit.

Blimey guys, I didn't mean to start an argument !!

So there I was, thinking I could spend 1/2 an hour over this weekend sorting out the insurance, but I find that I need 2 policies, one for us (two adults in their forties + 10 year old), and one for Mother (because she's will be 80), and now need to contact insurers, just to find out where my destination actually is.

So much for t'internet's timesaving powers ....

    I wasn't having an argument.

What quentin is saying is that there are Travel Insurances that are specifically for UK trips and these often include the channel islands within geographical limit.

What I was saying is that you can check Insurers details online when you get quotes. Most have the policy wordings which you can view online. From these you will note that some include the channel islands within the UK definition and other require you to take the European cover.

If you are planning on taking other trips during the year, you would be better having an annual policy that covers the furthest teritory you will visit. If you take out Europe or worldwide cover, it will also cover UK trips, provided you have prebooked accommodation in a hotel. If your mother is just taking the jersey trip, then a policy could be just arranged for that trip.Saga, Staysure and others specialise in providing cover for those more mature.

If you get tired spending too much time looking for cover, you could always speak to a decent high street brokers (not Swintons) and they will look for you.

The channel islands are not part of the UK or a full member state of the European Union. They are British crown dependancies.

This thread is just about Travel Insurance. Some include under the same geographical limits as UK. With others they are included within European coverage.

Yes but my point is that UK and Europe are the same thing (technically) so should be the same
