If pay day falls on a w/e or a b/h we always get paid the Friday, it shows on the on line balance but not on the detail statement and doesn't 'appear' until the Monday but I can spend it!!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last

    Hi,

I get paid monday, but there's only £7 left in my account and need food. If I use a VISA debit, which I believe doesn't do a balance check at point of purchase, can I safely buy food assuming that the transaction won't go through until Monday anyway?

    Ta.

    Which bank is it ?

Santander may let it go through but you'll get a £35 charge for card misuse.
All banks in RBS group will let it go tho, but i'm guessing your not with them or you'd know you can withdraw Mondays payments on the weekend.

I dont know about the others.

These days the floor limit on most chip and pin terminals is 0, so if you don't have the money it will decline.

    Myself, yes.

Myself, my wife, my son, the cats, no :)

    Dried cat food £1
    Loaf of bread £0.50
    Bag of pasta £1
    2x tins of tomatoes £0.70
    1kg rice £1
Cheap veg e.g carrots etc. £2

Should keep you going till monday. Bit lacking in protein, but you could always get some lentils/tinned beans. Whether the kids will eat it is another question I guess!!

This is just the sort of situation a credit card or small overdraft would avert, as it is a cash flow problem rather than a spending problem. Perhaps think about applying for one, or get onto your boss most people would get their money the day before if pay day was on a non-banking day.

I have my salary paid into an RBS Group account, Credits due on Monday are available on Saturday so there is always money at the weekend thankfully. The downside is it works both ways, Debits due to come out on Monday come out on Saturday also.

Good luck with all the carbs, theres always the cats for protein if your really stuck

You must have something at home which you can eat, if you put your mind to it, then buy the bare minimum with the £7 you still have in your account.

Should feed all of you for the weekend

You need to have stern words with that cat. Shouldn't it be out catching your food?
