I should have been flying this morning, but my flight has been cancelled. I have no idea where I stand now until hear from the travel company. They are offering refunds, but obv I have not paid so cannot get a refund of MY money:(
But at least my situations is not as bad as one of our pals, as coupon mad is still stuck in Lanzarote and having trouble getting help. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=31969417#post31969417
If you read this CM, good luck.

Oh dear...poor CM...nice to have an extended holiday but the stress of getting it sorted makes it all very upsetting...it does seem as though the airlines will have to pay though, according to the news on Radio4 just now.Chin up CM....Poor Blue...I'm sure it will be sorted for you to go another time...not sure how you would go about getting a refund for a comp win...I remember when I won a trip to see Jose Carreras in concert in Monte Carlo, the small print said how much the win was worth but that it was worth nowt if it was cancelled...fortunately it wasn't...

Maybe the company you won the holiday with can get their money back and offer you to go another time. I know you were really looking forward to your holiday but at least you are on the ground and safe. I know I wouldn't want to be flying if there is something in the air that might cause a problem. The plane I was on when I was moving from the States to here had to dump all it's fuel, turn around to go back to the airport we had just taken off from and do an emergency landing because one of the engine covers fell off! Shame as I was looking forward to the flight as I was in a row with only 2 seats (a bit more room) sitting next to a gorgeous Italian man.;) Oh, the engine cover was found in a baseball field in New Jersey! Good thing it didn't land on anyone!

Morning Everyone! Just back from Switzerland. Fortunately for the first time in 20 years we opted to drive. So glad we did and are not stuck like some others. Just going to have a cuppa then hit the shops to stock up on some bargains. :)

    Happy Belated Birthday Sher!

Thanks for replies everyone. Have emailed our MP and the CEO of Monarch Airlines.

Still no info at the mo. Feel like crying TBH, it´s a lovely hotel but with the threat of having to pay over a thousand Euro hotel bill we can´t relax.:(

Thanks so much to Browntoa for the very useful pm, much appreciated info. x

I have just heard from Gambia Experience who I booked the holiday with and they say I can re book anytime including when they start them again from Manchester in November onwards:j:j I don't know other peoples experience in getting through to holiday companies, but Gambia Experience have been brilliant, answering the phone quickly and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone thinking of a trip to Gambia.
Coupon Mad will hopefully be ok as BBC News has just said that if your in Europe then the Airlines are liable for all your costs.:D
Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)

Fantastic news Blue...you can now relax and save up ( or win ) a bit more for your spends....I agree re CM, all reports here are saying costs will be met, but I do think it must be hard to completely relax in this situation.....chin up CM...
