I'm going to give you the Reader's Digest version of my failed shopping trip to Tesco Extra in Cradley Heath yesterday. My daughter and I had spent over an hour doing our shopping but when we were going through the till a supervisor came over and asked the SA's if they needed something (I didn't hear what) and they didn't and he saw the coupons I was giving the SA and wanted to see them. My Daughter was on the till right next to mind and another supervisor had just walked over an handed something to the SA that was checking her out and as she was walking away, the supervisor at my till started asking the one walking away about the "new" coupon policy. Apparently the "new" policy is this: the coupon will only be accepted if it has your name on it and you have to have proper ID on you to prove that the name on the coupon is your name! What on earth will they think of next! I explained that I can't control how the coupon prints and if it prints www.dove.co.uk or Personalised Coupon or my name and all they said was that was their new policy to stop people from using someone else's coupon so it must have a name and I have to prove that the name is mind. I personally don't think coupons should print a name on it just for Data Protection sake. Plus what does it matter who uses the coupon? If it is a legitimate coupon and the person using it has to actually buy the product which would indicate that the person uses that product so what if they have more coupons because someone gave them their coupon because they aren't going to use it and doesn't want it to go to waste when they know someone who can use it! In the States there are "Coupon Groups/Clubs" and they swap the coupons they aren't going to use for ones they will. And I don't know if they still do this, but the grocery stores used to have a box by the front of the store where people would put the coupons they didn't want and you could take ones you were going to use. I honestly don't see the big to do over someone using a coupon that was given to them. The store is making a sale and so is the manufacturer so where is the problem?!!! Unfortunately for Tesco Extra in Cradley Heath they did not make the sale though as some of my coupons did not have my name on it (which I can't control that) so I tipped out the £125+ of groceries out of my bags and into the trolley then informed them that I had been shopping for over an hour so the chilled and frozen would be no good to put back. My daughter did the same but her shopping came to about £150. It must be nice that their store is doing so well that they can turn away over £275 in sales, not to mention the future sales they will lose as we won't be going back! I'll be damned if I'm going to show them ID to use a coupon!:mad::mad:

Well done Sher. What does it matter whose name is on/not on the coupon. If you've bought the product then you should be able to use the coupon. What about coupons from magazines/newspapers? Just another way of T getting at couponers methinks. Give it a few days and I expect it will change again, as we all know. ;) Perhaps if everyone did this T might realise how !!!!!! off we all are at their stupid rules and regs that change by the minute!!!

Cheers for that!:) It's like you say, when it comes to the coupons from newspapers and magazines how do they know someone didn't give me those coupons! It just doesn't make any sense at all! The idea of coupons is to boost the sales for both the manufacturer and the store. Okay, the manufacturers would like to get new customers to try their products which I know they do get a percentage of new customers using the coupons because I myself never bought Sacla or Nairn's (for example) before the coupons that are on the 1st post but for the most part it is the people that buy those products all the time that use the coupon to get a "deal". Honestly, if they only had a brain!!! I don't think they listen to the words coming out of their mouth's as it just makes them sound like idiots! If this is the "new" coupon policy per the mangaer of Cradley Heath, he isn't very intelligent when it comes to marketing that's for sure!;)

The customers that were next in line after me had their mouths hanging open in shock after hearing the supervisor say you have to have ID to use coupons!!

How awful sher, having to be treated like that. Tesco don't seem to realise that though we are using a coupon we are spending money too.

I had a good day yesterday, but they need us to use their stores as much as we like using coupons to save money. I would be inclined to write a letter of complaint at being shown up like this.

Hope you feel a bit better today, and have got over the upset.

    Good for you Sher!

Jeez, you really couldn't make it up, could you? :huh:Well their loss will be another stores gain.

I told them that because the SA had already put through a £2.50 Farmfoods and a Waitrose £10 wys £80 and she had written on them which meant I couldn't use them in another store so that was £12.50 thrown in the bid that belonged to me! The supervisor that started all the trouble wrote a note out and signed it saying the coupons were written on by mistake or something like that and I said "you've got to be joking! You won't take perfectly good coupons from me because it doesn't have my name on it and you expect a different store to except the ones you distroyed by writing on them just but the "say so" of a note that could have been written by anyone?!!" He said he couldn't do anything else to rectify it. Huh, if I took £12.50 from them they would call the police on me and all I get is "sorry I can't do anything about it"!!! And as I turn to walk out I informed them that "Asda and Sainsbury's will be only too happy to have my coupons thus getting my business!" And the looks on the other customers' faces was like a deer in the headlights look. The thing that made me the angriest out of the whole thing though was the time I wasted shopping and making sure I was going to spend £125 or more to use those 2 conditional spend coupons, over an hour of my life wasted! I hate it when some wastes my time, I can do that by myself very well without help! I do have a life and most days there isn't enough time in the day to do everything that needs doing so you can understand why I hate it when my time is wasted. Rant over!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I really didn't need any groceries as we have plenty in the house but thought I could stock up on a few things to use up the Waitrose one as it expired yesterday. So yesterday's business from me was a "bonus" shop as Tesco had already had £125+ off me on Thursday. I still have 4 of the same Waitrose conditional spend coupons to be used the next 2 weeks to use so that will make a total of £500+ they won't be getting from me. (I always use at least one of the Farmfoods every time I shop so have to spend at least £125 per shop.) That would probably paid for a week wages for 2 of the 3 supervisors.;)
