Head Gasket

We are unsure what to do so any advice greatfully recieved! Our P reg Renault Clio has just had it's headgasket go on us. We've been quoted £400 for the repair (which we can't really afford!) or it's been suggested we use something called Blockweld! We only bought the clio last summer but we have a sneaky suspicion that Blockweld had already been used by the previous owner so it doesn't seem like a good idea to use again. Anyone got any experience of Blockweld? and is it worth forking out £400 to have the head done or is it likely to go again? We do a lot of longish trips in the car so need it too be reliable!

MM:eek:

Has it been running OK since you got it up until now? If so, I'd be tempted to get it fixed. As if you scrapped it and got another car for banger money it might turn out to have no end of problems right from the start. :)

Is it worth having such a lot of work done on a old car? can the job be done cheaper?
Have a friend in simalar situation and who is trying to decide if its worth getting done.

The problem is that it's always the other stuff that has to be done at the same time that piles up the cost, if that includes the cabelt, water pump, pulleys etc it's a good price.

What you have to consider though is why has it gone, over heating? Hence the need to ensure the cooling system is ok.

Any form of chemical treatment should only be regarded as temporary, as you are now finding out.

Only you can decide what you can afford or how much reliabilty you wish to risk. ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

It's some sort of mixture that is put in to seal the crack in the head. I believe theirs a number of different types. It's a bit like radweld which temporarily fills a cracked radiator. I know that for it too work you have to follow the instructions to the letter!

K seal does the same sort of thing, costs about a tenner so got to be worth a try as other wise the car is effectively worthless so you have nothing to lose

Great cars Clio's, get it fixed, or sell it on Ebay with the fault, will still get a couple of hundred!

Am I right in thinking P reg is aproximately 13 years old? If so, I wouldn't waste £400 on it.
