    :oWe really dont know where it came from and why she had got it, we are just gob smacked to be honest !!! can not remember what the tin was that he said i remember thinking a tin about 6-8inchs high about 4 across will ring and ask when he finishes work.

    Mercury is used extensively in open gold mining, maybe your dear old Mum had a hobby you were unaware of;)

    Mercury isn't particularly dangerous, as long as you aren't handling it every day. The body excretes it fairly easily.
    We used to play with it in science lessons at school, even my mum did and at 85 years old, it doesn't seem to have done her any harm.

    We used it in the welders where I used to work and the contaminated mercury was returned to a lab for reprocessing. It is very expensive, so well worth a bit of research to see if you can sell it as scrap.

    Look up a metal recycling place in yellow pages, and sell it to them.

    Sitting next to the Bunsen burner , which rested on the Asbestos sheet .

    And people wonder why some of us are critical of some Health /Safety rules!

    The bunsen burners that were fed by brittled & cracked rubber tube & held onto the gas terminal by a sharp clip..

    But all was well if there was a fire extinguisher in the next building.
