I am getting ready to take the plunge in to FV. TBH, I’d like to also get a Toppy PVR straightway, having seen my son-in-law’s in operation and knowing it seems to be a very sensitive piece of equipment. However I wonder if it is a step too far, running before I can walk.
I can probably borrow another relative’s Goodman GDB3 and Lowest-on-Web, aka Evesham are selling Fusion FRT103 @ £29.99 incl. VAT and p&p.
I will need the sensitivity and wonder if either of the boxes will fill that bill or if others that are cheap may be better, if I do not get the Toppy at the start, or if I should be brave and go for it.
Thoughts from my friends here?

But, I'd borrow the toppy first, to check that you can get a freeview signal. Humax also make good pvr's.0

Hi
I have the Toppy, excellent piece of equipment, not sure what you mean by sensitive? but if you go for the Toppy you won't be disappointed with the build or quality and its very easy to use, even my 5yr old can select his folders and watch his recorded Cbeebies.
I didn't have to upgrade my aerial, just using a normal one and reception is excellent.
If you have any questions about the Toppy they have an excellent forum.

Hope this helps
PS Just watching the new channel, FilmFour at the moment, pretty good.0 -
Sensitivity? The ability to make the best use of what signal is received by the STB or PVR from the aerial.0

My aunt(aged 70) had the same initial doubts as you about a year ago when her VCR died on her. I suggested a PVR to her but she wasn't sure as she thought she wouldn't use Freeview channels and the PVR would be too difficulty for her.
In the end we bought a cheap VCR and I managed to persuade her to get a Freeview box. Over this last year she has realised that she does indeed watch some of the Freeview channels - especially enjoys watching QVC(not buying though) and finally agrees that the picture quality is better. Just a few weeks ago her VCR died again and having bought another in a hurry decided she didn't like it.
This time I managed to talk her into the idea of a PVR. I told her about two Fusions and a Humax, ranging in price from £99 to £199. She decided to go for the Humax 9200 even though it was the dearest. Signal quality is excellent even with a loft aerial and I was really impressed with it too - it even shows the name of the programme and not just a number on its display.
She's had it for about 3 weeks ago and absolutely loves it. She finds it a doddle to record and playback, she uses live pause and wishes she'd done it sooner. She's been telling everybody about it.
Meanwhile I've put the cheap Freeview box on her 14" portable with indoor aerial and it works a treat.
I'd say definitely go for it!0
