Do you think if I wrote to the cc company and explained they would reconsider. Is there any way of proving the situation to them?

IMO, this is a red herring.
Your credit card application has not been referred for further checks. It's been declined.
you have applied to be on the Electoral Roll, it may not have been updated by the credit reference agencies

Absolutely. If you type the name of your borough and the terms "electoral roll" into google, it will take you to the relevant page on your council website. Most local authorities include an explanation of how the register is compiled and when your names will appear. It depends which month you enrolled.

I would keep an open mind though, until you've checked your credit file.

I have read through this thread several times, and then taken a few minutes to calm down a bit before posting; I know that this forum is not to be used to criticise questions and their answers, but sometimes the lack of initiative, and/or lack of knowledge amazes me.

Here's a link to an Experian website that might be useful
    http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/index.html
Possibly - some companies will cluster areas together to make lending decisions
Under the data protection act that cannot happen; only data against a specific individual (any their financial associates) at a specific address can be taken into account. Equifax used to have a product that gave a vague score based on an area - there was a newspaper article showing it gave scores for Elvis, Hitler, and Napoleon - but I have not heard about it for a long time, so I would not like to suggest they still use it.

As the Boss said, the lack of voters roll information would affect the score but would not necessarily be the determining factor, especially as the application would have asked for a previous address which would have been checked.

The fact it is an ex council house has nothing at all to do with the decision; the repossession would equally not affect it, as a credit card lender would not see CML (council of mortgage lenders) information.

I would always appeal a decision; it's worked for me several times.

But, as always, check your file first - you can apply on Experian's website.
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)

Well, that's good news. There's not a lot you can do about missed or late payments, other than build up your credit rating before making a further application.

Have you checked your electoral status at your new address? This is very important.
What do you mean by red herring?

A subject that diverts attention, not necessarily intentionally, from the issues that matter, ie. you are NOT linked financially with the previous occupiers of your house, so this is not the reason you were declined.

I'm not quite sure how to take those comments jonnyb.

I ask for help because I need it, I'm not trying to be akward. Lack of knowledge is exactly WHY people ask for help. I dont ask because I fancy having someone take a dig at me. If you had read my post properly before posting your reply you would have seen that I HAVE checked both mine and my husband credit reports through experian.

One of the first things I did upon moving was to register on the electoral role, the council have said it was updated and our names added in July.

I am simply trying to work out a reason for the decision and had hoped people with more knowledge/experience than me could help.

I apologise if I have taken your comments out of context.
