We're paying £310 which is just for the vicar/church. There's no organist, choir, bells or flowers. We've also got to pay £30 to have our banns read at our parish church

I can't beleive how much Churches cost

I thought I was badly done to with the Catholic Church charging us £150! That covers the Priest, the organist and we aren't having a choir. The flowers are free as my MIL2B does the flowers for Church anyway. :D

Maybe we've got a discount as she is so involved in the Church?

Ah Rose, as you mention registrar I take it you're getting married at a Catholic church in which case it will be more as you need the registrar. C of E vicars are also registrars so that cuts out the need to pay a registrar as well as the vicar.

Hi, sorry I've left the breakdown of costs at work, but it's a Church of England Paris Church, in Frenchay, Bristol. I'm pretty sure it mentioned registrar, I'll check monday and come back to you! Ive also received notification today that the prices go up annually, so will be even more next year! Thanks for your comment! :)

  • I cant understand it we must be so so lucky were getting married in the catholic church but we arnt being charged for anything all the priest asked for was a donation towards the church!!!! We attend every Sunday and put money in the plate so he sees that we are committed and want to get married in the church!!!
Other churches on the other hand (we need to get letters for all sorts) would gladly rip your ar off you and take a fortune!!!

The Catholic church doesn't charge anything for hire, the idea being no one should be stopped from getting married due to lack of funds. I think it's usual to make a donation, perhaps give the priest a present and obv stuff like flowers and organist is extra.

But you still have to pay for registrar, giving notice etc. the same as a civil ceremony requires i believe?

CofE works out at roughly the same cost as civil cermony outside of a registry office. Our friends had a hotel wedding and paid £200 for the room hire, and around £350 for the ceremony fees.

Hi all, I have enquired about getting married at a local church in a picturesque village and I have been informed the charges for the ceremony incl. church maintenance, vicar, registrar ect, bells and organist accounts to £697!

I was expecting £300 not £700 and so just want to check whether this is the usual charges or are we being penalised due to the location?

    Many thanks :o

We're getting married at our local church. I just got an email from the warden with this years costs, which will go up next year, but are helpful for budgeting purposes.
£486. This includes a realistic sum towards the cost of heating,
lighting, upkeep etc. A rehearsal is always offered at no extra charge. There is also no extra charge for opening the church before the service for decorating it with flowers or for any other reason.
The fee includes the £50 cost of an organist
More than i had originally budgeted for, and doesnt include the cost of bell ringing or a choir (we dont have a bell or choir!)

Contribution to Diocesan Funds for clergy and banns & certificate, Chruch fee, maintenance, photo licence, copy right licence fee, verger and clerk total: £457.00

    Optional extras@ Organist £135.00, Bells £105.00

Just check the C of E website and fees are £294.00, without extras. So seems accurate, but it all mounts up!

When i got married 1st time it was in a CofE church and it cost £360 and this included everything as well as the organist, bell ringing and flowers.

The vicar told us that the congregation lived for the day they could perform at a wedding, funeral etc and NO way would they charge as they would get their reward in heaven, however donations to the church fund would be greatfuly recieved.

Which i was quite surprised about as my cousin got married a few months before me and her church bill was £850 so i was expecting the same.
