Saved some money on a HPI Check

After my car died big time last week I'm off to buy a new one. Found the one I liked and for due diligence thought I'd better get a HPI check done.
Here's my money saving summary of the cheapest way I found ...
There are lots of HPI checks out there, in the end I followed the review advice Given by Auto Express (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/224979/car_history_checks_test.html) and went for the Experian AutoCheck which is normally £19.99.
By clicking through from Topcashback.co.uk I should get £6 cashback (Quidco also gives £6 cashback but they charge a £5 annual fee so I tend to only use TCB now)
After some google checking I finally found an AutoCheck discount code that worked (most of the ones I tried had expired), but by using the discount code S2KUK you get 20% off, bringing the price down to £15.99.
In addition to doing this paid check I also took advantage of the free vehicle checks that VOSA and the DVLA offer:
- At the DVLA's website (http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/) you can check the vehicle's registration date and tax disk details
- At the VOSA website (http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-Internet-History-Request.jsp) you can obtain details of the current and previous MOTs, but you need the individual MOT/MOT refusal certificate number(s) or V5 certificate number
So all in all as long as the cashback comes through I should have paid just £9.99 for a comprehensive HPI. One advantage of AutoCheck over some of the cheaper competitors is that it verifies whether there is outstanding finance on the vehicle or not
Cheers, Geoffrey
