Yup, read your very well written message to Scan (and edited my original post earlier) - that ought to do the job.

I just tried it in a USB extension lead and it's an easy fit indeed so I guess they're slack by nature.

Thanks. :) If you think about it, those extension leads are just a flimsy bit of metal, that will easily bend if you push something too big in. The ports on a computer, on the other hand, are made of sterner stuff! (Especially aluminium Macbooks, apparently)

Haven't had any reply from them today, any suggestions if they don't reply again tomorrow? (Other than phoning their premium rate phone number)
  • That's a slam dunk email to them isn't it?! I hope they don't try to wriggle out of it in a futile face-saving attempt. I would respect them much more if they just said, "You're right - here's the money back".

The only thing that may have made it easier for them to do this is if you offered to return the device to them (another 61p at their expense) rather than insist they collect from you.

Let us know what they say. Remeber that under the DSRs they have a fixed amount of time to refund the money (30 days from memory?).

Still no reply. I sent an email through their contact system on the website and as a reply to the RMA email (I am convinced that both went through, as I have used both of these methods before). They have now had 2 full days to reply.

I have also posted the information here, on the Hexus forums. I am not optimistic about receiving a reply.

What is my next step, waiting until Apr 15th and then doing a chargeback?

Thanks everyone for your advice so far

    Have a look here:

    http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-hexus-after-sales-support/183332-refund-required-faulty-goods.html

They have been posting various replies (by no less than 4 different employees), saying they are "investigating" with their supplier & the manufacturer.

Isn't this illegal? I thought the contract is between me and the retailer.
