HAve you contacted the manufacturers directly? They'd be able to trace how hold the item is & also sort the problem out, cutting out the middle man."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0

Whilst Argos may be the only offical retailor of the items new that doesnt stop people selling them second hand or for ones that have "fallen off the back of a lorry" turning up on ebay or at market stalls.
As others have said, what you describe is simply that of a hair drier dying. They will almost all ultimately do this but undoubtably the cheaper ones will do it quicker.
Personally I would chuck it in the bin and think that £5 for 3 months use isnt the worst ever return on investmentAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I disagree with you........i only had it for a few months....should the price be 4.99 or 49.99 and it is sold with a years guarantee i would expect it to last at least that long and be safe under normal use (the one i had was bought for when my niece came to stay for her use so had only been used a handful of times)
I have also had hairdryers die on me before...........although not as this one with the case starting to melt etc.....which was clearly hazardous...... as was reaffirmed on my return to argos with the dryer and getting to deal with the store mannager whom took the matter very seriously and has filled in a hazard report on the product...refunded me.....apologised for my earlier treatment...and i will be receiving feedback in time once it has been tested.0 -
Ok... but then again... prove you only bought it a few months ago... without a receipt you are normally fairly stuffed at proving when you bought it and where you bought it from irrespective of "exclusive to" type headers.
You seem to be changing your story on what happened with the item - your first post stated the fan slowed (ie motor dying), it started glowing red inside (ie element over heating as the air flow is too low) and smoke came out of it (ie element burning due to over heating). You didnt mention that the casing had melted etc.
Ultimately items dont last forever but yes it will have a one years warrenty so prove when you bought it and get a refund/ replacement. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

If you fully read all the posts you will see i eventually found the receipt. So i have been able to prove when i bought it. I have also now had a refund
I havnt changed my story........i havnt told a story.........ive told the facts as they happened.........yes i didnt mention that there was some melting on the casing on my first post, i hadnt noticed that before.... it was in fact the store mannager who pointed that out to me while inspecting it, hence my adding that information when updating everyone on the progress....how is that changing my story?...so get your facts right...dont accuse me of changing things i have said.0 -
I think you should write to there head office about the terrible service you got seeing as the product was a product recall they automatically have to give you a refund, plus theres an automatic 1yr electrical gaurentee..
