credit card interest.

Hi i'm new to this so would really like as much help as possible please. When i was 16 (im now 27) i was mis sold a credit card in a bank. I asked if it was a credit card as i didnt want one and they told me no it is a back up card not a credit card. s it happened it was a credit card and i got in loads of debt. I was told the interest was 19% but after years of trying to pay it off i got called into the bank a 2years ago as i just wasnt clearing it and all my money was just paying the interest. It was then that i was informed that the interest was 30% because i had withdrawn from the cash points. Does anyone know if i would have any chance in claiming the interst back as i wasnt told it had gone from 19 to 30%. Also being told in the first place that it wasnt a credit card. I did have an ex friend with me at the time for proof of what was said.

Please help, many Thanks
Suzanne

You would have been getting monthly statements for 11 years and never bothered to check the interest rate?

Absolutely nothing on credit card interest rate but can you confirm that you were given a credit card at 16 years of age since the bank have breached the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Any chance you could request a copy of the application form?

  • You definitely should not have been given a credit card at 16. I'd go down that route if I were you and see if you can get the account written off on that basis.

    Great troll post!
  • No i was told the interest and new nothing at all about credit cards etc not even interest so i didnt check the rate. I have already cleared it as i got a loan out over 5years to clear it as there was no way i would clear the balance as my interest was so high. I will see if i can get hold of a copy from when i took it out etc. Thanks
