Well, oak is supposed to be the native tree that supports most wildlife, followed by willow. But oak is slow growing. Silver birch is very pretty. Amelanchier is often recommended on Gardener's Question Time on Radio 4 for year-round interest. Did you want it to be ornamental? How far is the spot from buildings?0

We got a tree for both our dogs that have died over the years, we found trees that had their name in it, eg for Duke we bought a Duke of orange apple tree. Maybe you could find something similar.Always on the hunt for a bargain0

Lovely idea, I'd plant a silver birch, I have 2 near me and they are always full of small birds, my son has planted 6 in his wildlife garden to create a mini dell,

They produce dappled shade and can be under planted with bluebells, daffs, primulas etc.

The Davey apple , would be too tall at 30 feet , but could you graft on to dwarf stock . That was with 30 seconds research , so anything is possible.0 -
It's not a tree, but what about Buddleia davidii? You could leave it to grow big if required. Or train it into a standard (one stem) form.
