Yikes! Look in screwfix or toolstation, you can get 360deg ceiling ones for less than £20. I run 6 halogen ceiling lights (50W each) with a 20min delay for my kitchen. Very sensitive though, even the cats set it off, so wired a manual switch in as well so I can force it off at night etc.

The £50 price was a couple of years ago, when I was shopping for one. The £12 (now £11) PIRs are up there now, and the directional detection pattern allows me to control things better.
Walking to the kitchen through the dining room along the wall triggers that one downlight, but having a candle lit dinner at the dining table does not. Same idea with the kitchen PIR, which points to the kitchen door, so it doesn't trigger when I'm cooking in the kitchen.

A Toolstation opened up near me about six months ago, but it's hidden away in this commercial park with such a tiny sign that I only noticed it last week. Bought a 1 metre long 24mm masory drill bit for about £15. Wickes wanted about £28. In fact, everything seems to be half price compared to Wickes.

For those without a toolstation near them, they are available online and will deliver any order of £10 or more for no extra cost. (unless you live in one of the far off remote areas ) Delivery should be next business day for orders placed before 5pm
