    A replacement car will still cost money for tyres and servicing, and could be an unknown at that price level...

    OH works local so if car broke down could always cycle to work (which he does in summer) - we use it most weekends during rugby season but overall usage is very light - around 1000 miles a year!
    Do you really need a car? Public transport or hire as and when could be a better option.
