Admin charge for address change car ins?
I've moved 3 times this year so have had to change my address with Diamond for my car ins. Each time they have charged me more telling me it was due to the area accident/stolen car rate. I accepted it the first time but now I think they are trying it on. I'll give you the short story as best I can.
House A is in a road next to a council estate with high unemployment.
House B is in a newish housing estate with professionals living there
House C is in the countryside down a country lane with high value houses, mainly commuters that work in London and surgeons/lawyers etc.
House D is in an older housing estate with mainly families.
Move from A to B no charge
Move from B to C £16 charge
Move from C to D £14 charge
When I rang to change my address the last time and they told me it would go up AGAIN I've argued and they put it to pricing. I got a call back last night and was told that it's no extra for the area move but it's "documentation charges" (fancy word for admin charges?). I said to the guy on the phone that I didn't think there were admin charges and he agreed that there isn't. I've looked in my policy handbook and no mention of doc charges for changes. I told him to get pricing to post me a detailed bill showing me what these charges are for each of my moves.
I've done quotes online for all the different addresses and according to them it should have gone up £7 on the very first move and then should have actually gone down each time! Also each move has had less time left on my insurance so would it have been higher if I had more months left to go?
I don't want to be spending money ringing them on their 0870 number arguing the point.
I've taken screens shots of each quote so shall I just email them and ask them to explain it?

I insure through the post office and they charge a £20 administration fee for any policy amendments. By comparison your charges look very reasonable.
I was not at all happy when the P.O. charged me £20 to amend my home contents insurance when I moved from one flat to another within the same apartment building.
In general though, I can see the point. There are costs involved in moving house. There is paperwork to be done and insurers have to re-assess the risk. New policies have to be put in place.
I think your insurers should be upfront though. They are clearly wanting to add on admin charges but are pretending the increases are due to increased risk.
Still: seems pretty reasonable to me.0 -
It doesn't matter what sort of business you run, changing a customer's details will cost money or cause a small inconvenience.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0
