Toilet cistern not refilling

Hi guys, another plumbing related problem for me I'm afraid which wqas probably caused when fixing the last one!!!
Our button flush toilet has stopped refilling after flush. There is a small spray of water coming from what I think is the fill valve but the cistern remains empty. It flushes fine when filled with a bowl of water but then doesn't refill.
The water was turned off a couple of weeks ago to work on the taps and I'm wondering if it could have dislodged some debris which is now blocking the valve. Do you think this might be it? If so how do I take it apart to clean it?
Thanks in advance

Is the inside workings plastic, cos ours is and it sticks, gets limescale on it. Take of the lid and just touch the thing that goes up and down (if it is a plastic thing inside), ours does not have the ball on a see saw. the inside is a compact filly thing.
Sorry not be be specific just look ander the lid, as it will all become apparent.0 -
Hi guys, thanks for your help. Turns out the fill valve was sticking even efter cleaning it so put a new one in, didn't cost much and works fine now :j0
