Civil Service HMRC Redundancy

I have been employed by HMRC for the past 26 years, 19 years full time & 7 years part time.

In the area where I work, several of the smaller offices have recently been told that they are to close within a couple of months with staff being made surplus or having to transfer to offices further afield.

I am at present in an office that for the moment is staying open but would welcome being made redundant as my husband is very ill & needs caring for.

Does anyone know if I could volunteer for redundancy if one of the surplus staff wanted to take over my job.

If they cant avoid redundancies by redeploying the staff then they should ask for volunters before going for compulsary redundancies and so could "bounce" you out. However they are unlikely to select you as, with ~22 years full-time service, you are expensive to make redundant

At the moment this is just a way of getting rid of surplus/pre-surplus staff in those offices.
The option isn't open to everyone but if it is ever opened up to all I'm sure that you won't be the only one to want to go...
